Manifesto
WHO AM I????
Snooooooooooooooooooooooooop!
Just kidding! I’m the gear dude! I’ve created this page to share a wealth of knowledge curated through many years of experience working with all types of music gear. If you’re like me, you have done your best to buy the right thing for your application and at times gotten the wrong thing which can be a frustrating experience. My articles are meant to guide you into making an informed and educated choice with your hard-earned dollars.
Knowledge is power in this world I believe. Nearly half of my life has been spent in customer facing MI retail helping people purchase the right equipment for the right reasons. I have watched how the evolving world of music gear has changed the landscape of what people purchase and why directly from the front lines. It’s crazy to think that just 10 years ago we carried giant guitar amplifiers to and from rehearsals and shows and now the technology has changed so that you can carry all of those sounds and 1,000’s more in a backpack from home, to rehearsals, to studios, to the biggest stages in the world and back again. I aim to take everything I have learned in my career and make it available to you in a fun and easy to learn from.
Making the plunge into expensive audio equipment can be a daunting and intimidating task. Recording is a tool that in recent years has gone from something you needed to book time in an expensive studio with an overpaid engineer to something anyone can do from the comfort of their own home. I believe every musician is capable of recording and producing their own music as long as you are willing to apply yourself and learn how these programs work. To me gear dude is a platform where I can take my knowledge of all things music and present it to you in such a way that you can make these steps in an informed and confident manner.
I aim to provide you with the most informative and best guides possible on everything ranging from studio equipment, instruments, digital audio programs, and anything else you may think of. Reviewing products won’t be my only goal. I plan to discuss techniques and methods of maintenance as well. Having spent over a decade as a roadie touring the world with rock bands, I have lots of insight as to what I believe are the best ways to maintain and upkeep your instrument.
Please let me know if there is anything you are curious to learn about as I am always looking for new material to discuss.
